Tue, 02 Dec 2008 21:11:11 PST- Mississippi State Football ended its fifth season under Sylvester Croom with an embarrassing 45-0 beat-down at Ole Miss, its arch-rival. The defeat ended the Bulldogs' disappointing season at 4-8—and it ended Croom's career at the school.
Croom resigned in a meeting with athletic director Greg Byrne the morning after the Egg Bowl loss. But while both he and the school termed it as a resignation, there's one telling note—Mississippi State Football will pay him his full $3 million buyout.
In the end, Mississippi State's poor offense under Croom probably doomed him. Croom was pressured to make changes in his staff and schemes. But, as evidenced by his resignation, he didn't want to do that. In five seasons under Croom, the Bulldogs went 21-38. Mississippi State...

When Sylvester Croom was hired at Mississippi State Football five years ago, CNN carried the announcement that the Southeastern Conference finally had a black head football coach to the world. Croom slipped out the door while no one was looking Saturday, resigning after an early morning meeting with athletic director Greg Byrne.

Fri, 28 Nov 2008 14:08:56 PST-Cotton might be king in Mississippi again. No. 25 Mississippi, spurred by a chance to play in a New Year's Day bowl, set a school record with 11 sacks, got four touchdown passes from Jevan Snead and routed Mississippi State Football 45-0 Friday in the most lopsided Egg Bowl in 37 years. "Total domination," Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt said after his first Egg Bowl.

Wed, 03 Dec 2008 19:16:02 GMT-Shortly after the resignation of Mississippi State Football head coach Sylvester Croom, Chris White had an in home visit with Coach Jim Leavitt of South Florida. Wed, 03 Dec 2008 06:46:06 GMT-The 6' 3", 275 pound defensive lineman out of Philadelphia (MS)
has been one of MSU's most staunch commitments but after the dismissal of their
head coach it has left the door cracked for competing schools.
Wed, 03 Dec 2008 03:41:02 GMT- GAME OF THE YEAR: Mississippi State Football 17, Vanderbilt 14 -- Anthony Dixon rushed for 107 yards and the Bulldogs beat a ranked Commodores team. After Mississippi State Football got off to a 1-4 start, it made Bulldogs fans feel better about their team -- at least for a while.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Dominic Douglas -- The senior moved from weakside linebacker to the middle with Jamar Chaney's injury, and he finished with a SEC-best 116 tackles.
Wed, 03 Dec 2008 03:41:02 GMT- PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2009:
RB Anthony Dixon -- After a 1,000-yard season in 2007, Dixon didn't get the ball as much in '08, and the results showed. He finished with 869 yards this season. It probably means he won't declare early for the NFL Draft, and it'll give the next coach a 240-pound senior bruiser to work with.
LB Jamar Chaney -- The senior broke his left leg in the season opener at Louisiana Tech. He applied for a medical redshirt and plans to return in 2009.
